How does the TAC pay for my chiropractic treatment?

There are two ways the TAC can pay for approved treatments and services: the TAC pays your provider at the TAC rate, or you pay your provider and the TAC repays you at the TAC rate.

What is a gap payment?

The TAC pays for treatment at the TAC rate. If a provider charges more than the TAC rate, you may need to pay the difference, known as a gap payment. Can I claim a gap payment back?

You may be able to seek reimbursement for some of a gap payment through Medicare or your private health insurance, or through the TAC. In most cases the TAC cannot reimburse a gap payment, because it has paid for your treatment at a rate it has determined is reasonable. You can still ask the TAC for reimbursement and they will let you know their decision.

How do I get reimbursed if I pay for treatment myself?

Scan or photograph your receipt and send it to the TAC using the 'Claim reimbursement' button on myTAC, or email it to info@tac.vic.gov.au. The TAC will repay you at the TAC rate.

Your treatment is led by Dr Yusuf Ozenoglu, a chiropractor with more than 20 years of clinical experience. TAC requires chiropractors to be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to practise in the chiropractic profession.

Dr. Ozenoglu has completed a certificate in neurological rehabilitation at The University of Melbourne, endorsed by ISPRM.  

Chiropractic care is commonly used for neck pain and whiplash-type symptoms, back pain, headaches, shoulder pain, spinal disc injuries, and pins and needles or pain in the arms or legs. Your chiropractor will assess your injuries and recommend a plan only for conditions related to your accident. Treatment must relate to your TAC accident injuries to be covered.

It takes three steps.
1) Choose a chiropractor. Your doctor can recommend one in your local area, or you can search online.

2) Call us on 0423 295 892 or book online and tell us you are a TAC client.

3) Attend your appointment and give us your TAC claim number. 

Not in the first 90 days after your accident. The TAC can help pay for chiropractic treatment in that period, and you do not need to contact the TAC for approval first if: you have a TAC claim number; your doctor or another health professional recommends the treatment; and it is for your accident injuries. 

You need to contact the TAC for approval if it is close to or more than 90 days since your accident and the TAC has not already approved more treatment, or if it has been more than six months since you had any treatment or service paid for by the TAC. 

Bring your TAC claim number, details of your accident and injuries, and any referral or recommendation from your doctor or other health professional. If you have previous X-rays, scans or reports, bring those too. 

A doctor or other health professional's recommendation is one of the conditions for treatment without prior TAC approval in the first 90 days. Your doctor can also recommend a chiropractor in your local area. 

Receiving different allied health treatments at the same time for the same injury is not usually recommended. If you or your provider believes it is necessary, the TAC asks you to contact them to talk about your needs. Tell us about any other treatment you are receiving so we can coordinate your care.

Depending on your injury and your TAC approvals, your plan may also include dry needling, cupping, taping, TENS/EMS and red light therapy, and prescribed rehabilitation exercise. Remember that the TAC does not usually recommend different allied health treatments at the same time for the same injury, so we will discuss your options first.
