Sciatica is a form of lumbar radicular pain caused by inflammation or compression of the lumbosacral nerve roots (L4–S1) that form the sciatic nerve. It produces radiating leg pain, sensory disturbance, and sometimes weakness, typically extending from the lower back or buttock down the leg.
Sustained postures and repeated spinal loading can perpetuate symptoms.
Sciatica is a clinical syndrome of unilateral radiating leg pain, with or without neurological signs, associated with lumbosacral nerve root irritation/compression (L4–S1). Mechanical and inflammatory contributors affecting the nerve root, producing leg‑dominant pain and possible sensory or motor change.
Sciatica can disrupt sleep, limits daily activities, increases anxiety and low mood, and reduces physical capacity through pain, weakness, movement limitations.
Targeted chiropractic and Gonstead adjustments focus on the lower back and pelvis to ease nerve irritation, reduce tension, and restore natural movement. By improving spinal alignment and load distribution, these techniques aim to reduce biomechanical stress on sensitive neural tissues and support more efficient neurological signalling related to pain and movement control.
Aiming to improve:
We providing chiropractic care for sciatica across South Morang, Epping, Whittlesea, Mernda, and Melbourne’s north.
Chiropractic care helps manage mechanical low back pain, disc‑related pain, lumbar facet joint dysfunction, muscular lower‑back tension, and nerve‑root irritation (lumbar radiculopathy). Techniques such as Gonstead lumbar adjustments, diversified spinal manipulation, myofascial release, and lumbar–pelvic mobilisation aim to restore joint motion, reduce neural irritation, and improve spinal biomechanics, supporting reduced pain, improved mobility, and better functional movement during daily activities.
